Off the coast of Vancouver Island, a team of scientists from Fisheries and Oceans Canada is conducting an exploratory mission collecting the first-ever underwater footage of the Union and Dellwood seamounts. The team will be broadcasting their research via a live stream, that will take viewers 2 kilometers under the ocean! The crew will be capturing these historical images with the aid of SubC Imaging’s cutting edge subsea technology such as the 1Cam MK6, Aquorea MK2, and the Rayfin, three of which are connected to the team’s drop-camera mount simply known as “BOOTS”.

This research will help assess the levels of species living around these biological diverse hotspots. Thus providing valuable insight into Canadian marine habitats helping scientists better understand regional seamounts and how to plan and manage future marine protected areas.
